Bursting Into Flames (Martin Dockery) 2011 Fringe Review

The one man comedy show, Bursting Into Flames, starring Martin Dockery, is high energy all the way through. I overheard a couple on their way out say, “I’m exhausted just by watching him” and I smiled to myself in agreement.

If you like stand-ups, you’ll really enjoy this show. It’s about a dead man who is “living” in heaven and his life seems very much like it was when he was alive, except infinitely more fun. During the course of the show he talks about love, relationships and all the other good stuff that everyday life is made of.

Martin’s acting and movements are amazing. He delivers his lines with such feverish intensity that you really feel like he’s talking to you. The show is very conversational and his spastic delivery reminds me of Kramer, from the show Seinfeld, who I think is hilarious.

There is a message about living life to its fullest and appreciating being alive that comes through loud and clear. One man shows can sometimes be a bit boring but this one is funny and engaging throughout.

After the show Martin took the time to ask the audience if anyone else was a part of another Fringe show and had them call out the name of the production. He also encouraged everyone to go watch Peter n’ Chris Save the World – who were there – as he has seen it twice and loved it. This was very exciting for me as that was my next show.

If you’re looking for a light, laugh-out-loud show this Fringe, be sure to check this one out.

  1. I agree 100% with the review – in fact, I’m the one who said “I’m exhausted just by watching him”. He is a one-man tour de force. Loved his 2009 Fringe Show and this one topped that by about 100%! Entertainment to the max, folks go check out this show before it’s completely sold out each night.

  2. We also loved the show as well as the Q&A afterwards!! We definitely recommend seeing this one.
