When Harry Met Harry
Written, devised and performed by Allan Girod | Directed by Igor Sas with sound and light by Joe Lui,
“I liked nothing more than watching this six-foot-nine Australian man contort himself into a child, a louche motivational speaker and an asocial perfectionist.” Plank Magazine Vancouver, 2010
… come and meet him!
Returning to Toronto Fringe*, applauded Australian performer Allan Girod brings his celebrated and Award Winning show from 2010.
A quirky, comical, bittersweet journey, When Harry Met Harry won;
• Winnipeg Best of Fest 2010
• Judges Choice Award (Blue Room Theatre – Australia) 2010
• Audience Development Award (Blue Room Theatre – Australia) 2010
(*Allan debuted in Canada at the 2009 Toronto Fringe with a powerful staging of Conor McPherson’s piece,
The Good Thief, about an Irish thug on the run.)
Set in an office environment, Harry is dedicated to finding perfection in work-related tasks. With an aversion
to change, his pointedly straight life is overturned when forced to attend an inter-personal skills development
workshop. How will Harry cope when screeching tyres, Tai Chi and public humiliation conspire to ruin him?
“You can’t do that! That’s not how you use LEGO.”
Exquisite facial expressions, eccentricities and elongated limbs enliven this examination of one man’s struggle to deal with confrontation.
Allan Girod says, “I wanted to give audience genuine experiences, so they are right there with Harry, either for or against him. As Harry is forced to face his truth audience can self-reflect, even have a laugh at themselves. Mostly I wanted to challenge myself, in the way I perform and to share more intimate stories.”
“A hilarious and moving show. Harry is beautifully expressed from every facial tic right down to [his] impossibly elegant and expressive feet.” The West Australian, Premiere season, May 2010
