Here’s the contest for the Sunday of the opening weekend of the 2011 Toronto Fringe Festival! There are seven performances to chose from on Sunday July 10. Or, heck, don’t choose, enter them all! This is you’re chance to go out and see some Fringe shows for free.

From press release: reSURGEnce is a collection of dances that examines society and the myriad of issues therein. Through contemporary dance, Kinetic Elements deconstructs and transcends the boundaries of the labels that society puts upon us. reSURGEnce tackles issues ranging from the small-scale pressure to fit in and look a certain way to the grand-scale G20 Summit that took place in Toronto last June.

Welcome to a town where everybody, from the Minstrel on up to the Mayor, needs something – but nobody, from the Doctor on down to the Ditch Digger, knows what it is they need. Well, that is, until a salesman (with a smile [and a suitcase {and a scam for the ages}]) finds his way to Town Square.

From press release: CHANNEL ONE. We are the last two people left.We escaped the end of civilization in a time machine only to land in a very lonely future. We created our own version of TV to entertain ourselves but soon were discovered by a time traveling audience from the year 2010. They left. Now we want more. We are female. We are funny. We are your future. Get in that time machine and be the next ones to see us unleash a mind-‐melting cloud burst of characters on Channel One.

Jungle 1
From press release: The entire six member ensemble of Tononto-based Urban Jungle Theatre (www.urbanjungletheatre.ca/ispy), creaters and producers of Jungle 1: i Spy, used the unique blend of old and new architecture of Central Technical School in the city 80′s lively Annex area to stimulate and craft the scenes for the play which will be performed on-site at the old school.
The audience, seated on the grass before the backdrop of the school’s exterior, will be treated to a theatre-in-the round experience, says Gillian Street, director of the Urban Jungle Theatre ensemble.

Remember Maggy?
From press release: Described as being like “The Golden Girls” with addiction and Alzheimer’s, Remember,Maggy? follows two sisters in their forties and the journey of their complex and often hilarious relationship over five years. Kate a quintessential housewife and Maggy a pill-popping/alcoholic actress, battle to stay conn=cted through the progression of their mother’s Alzheimer’s. The revealing of dark truths causes their already fragile relationship to hang in the balance.

Contest Rules:
(these will remain the same for each Fringe contest, so take the time to read the list once and you’ll be set)
- The only acceptable form of entry for the contest is by email, sent to contests@mooneyontheatre.com (Mooney on Theatre will never use your email address for anything other than to reply to the specific contest you entered, and we certainly would never sell it or anything like that)
- Each show counts as its own contest, and each entry must be in a separate email. So, if 5 shows are giving tickets away on a given day, and you want to try for each of them, then you need to send 5 emails.
- Entrants must be available on the day and time listed in the contest. The tickets are available for that showing only, and cannot be transferred to another date.
- The winning entrants will be chosen by a random drawing.
- Winners will be notified by email by 9pm on the day of contest closing and need to confirm their attendance 10am AT THE LATEST the following morning so that their names can be given to the theatre company for tickets to be set aside.
- Photo I.D. may be required to claim the winning tickets.
- Tickets must be picked up 60 to 30 minutes before show time at the venue box office. The box office reserves the right to release any tickets not picked up 15 minutes before show time.
- We ask that all winners provide us with a quick blurb on what they thought of the show, either in the comments section of the press release on Mooney on Theatre, or if it has already been reviewed by Mooney on Theatre in the comments section of that.
