Dana Ewachow is too shy to order a pizza over the phone, but has no problem writing on the internet. She keeps herself busy and artistically poor by writing news articles, rants, and fiction for the internet. As you may have noticed, she also writes theatre reviews. She enjoys sketch comedies, dark comedies, light comedies, and burlesque. Little Pricks (RUBE. CO) 2016 Toronto Fringe Review

little Pricks written in a worn typewriter fontI just got back from the show Little Pricks by RUBE CO. at the Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse for the 2016 Toronto Fringe Festival. Little Pricks, directed by Rosanna Saracino and written/performed by Denise Norman, is about Norman’s experience with the chronic condition MS (Multiple Sclerosis). The show, dubbed an absurdist reality, was an emotional hit. I left the theatre in tears, and I know I was not the only one.

The End (Please Like Me Productions) 2016 Toronto Fringe Review

Miriam Drysdale in front of a post apocalyptic landscapeLast night I was lucky to see the show The End by Please Like Me Productions at the Annex Theatre for the 2016 Toronto Fringe Festival. The End is a musical that takes place at the edge of the apocalypse. Director Heather Braaten combines tragedy and comedy, by showing two heroes can do nothing but sing into the apocalypse.

Born with a Tale (Helder Brum Productions) 2016 Toronto Fringe Review

Smiling man in a recliner reading a bookI just finished watching the show Born with a Tale by Helder Brum Productions at the Robert Gill Theatre for the 2016 Toronto Fringe Festival. Born with a Tale is a storytelling experience, directed by Phil Luzi and hosted by comedian Helder Brum. Brum takes his audience through a series of personal tales, which I don’t want to spoil for you, because these stories need to be heard in person.

Review: Choking the Butterfly (Rarely Pure Theatre)

Toronto’s Rarely Pure Theatre stages James Johnson’s bleak play Choking the Butterfly

I was lucky to see Choking the Butterfly by Rarely Pure Theatre,  playing in the Storefront Theatre. The sun was shining outside, but all that was left from the gorgeous day was the incredible heat when the theatre’s front doors closed.
