The Short Short Play Festival takes place on the second floor of The Social Capital Theatre. When I went, the room was packed with people sipping beer and chatting as much as possible before the lights dimmed. The theatre was prepped for a fun night with a fully-stocked bar dishing out drinks, a popcorn machine, short shorts dangling from the ceiling, and programs with crossword puzzles on the back. I believe six across is “Wedge.” With drinks, snacks, and brain teasers, I was already set for a good time. Three short short plays were the extra bit of something to make my night memorable.

For Body and Light Presents Coming and Going (Wired on Words) 2015 Toronto Fringe Review
For Body and Light Presents Coming and Going by Wired on Words is currently playing at the Randolph Theatre for this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival. Coming and Going is a piece that combines spoken word, music, and dance. The program describes itself as a story of a young man setting sail on a ship and discovers eerie, beautiful life. Lockeye & Pond in Death Killing Machine (Lockeye & Pond) 2015 Toronto Fringe Review
Lockeye & Pond in Death Killing Machine by Lockeye & Pond is currently playing at the Annex Theatre for this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival. Lockeye and Pond are the spoofs or at least the ridiculous doppelgangers of characters in the classic Ian Fleming novels and the 007 movies. Pond is a hot-shot spy known for always saving the day. Lockeye is the evil villain whose plans are always foiled by Pond. And yes, he literally has a lock for an eye.

HEADLESS/The Play (Marbles Theatre) 2015 Toronto Fringe Review
HEADLESS/The Play by Marbles Theatre is currently playing at the Tarragon Theatre Mainspace for this year’s Fringe Festival. The title is a bit misleading, since the show is less of a grim murder mystery and more of a comedy. The show (directed by Bruce Hunter and written by Tommy Jeff McAteer) is based on a real 2014 George Brown playwrighting class, and centres around the meta-commentary of the nature of writing, acting and theatre.
