ROCKgarden Party – An Interactive Children’s Musical (Little Fingers Music) 2012 Toronto Fringe Review

ROCKgarden Party Toronto Fringe 2012

All of the shows in Fringekids at the Fringe are held in the Palmerston Library. It’s a great venue; there’s a washroom in the theatre so if a kid has to go you don’t have to leave the performance the way you do at other venues. Someone with a kid thought of that.

My grandson and I saw ROCKgarden Party – An Interactive Children’s Musical today. I have to admit that the ‘interactive’ in the title had me a bit worried. Max is very shy and any kind of interaction before he was ready would have been a disaster. I needn’t have been concerned, the interaction is voluntary, fun, and without pressure. A Brief History of History: a 3-Disc Box Set (Good Guys) 2012 Toronto Fringe Review

A Biref History of History

The first Saturday of Fringe, the lineups are longer and the heat has eased a bit. Time for some revisionist history and sketch comedy with A Brief History of History: a 3-Disc Box Set from Starwipe, a six-man comedy troupe who have been together for more than 5 years. Normally they perform improv; this is their first sketch show. Continue reading A Brief History of History: a 3-Disc Box Set (Good Guys) 2012 Toronto Fringe Review

It’s My Show (It’s My Show) 2012 Toronto Fringe Review

It's My Show Toronto Fringe 2012It’s been three and a quarter hours since I left the Fringe show It’s my Show and my cheeks and jaw muscles are still hurting from laughing so much and grinning widely when I wasn’t laughing. It’s My Show is comedy writ large.

George Westerholm is a very funny  man. His show is the funniest that I’ve seen at Fringe this year an I’ve seen some funny shows. He and Patrick McKenna wrote the show, McKenna directs it. Westerholm is accompanied by Jake Wilkinson on the piano and Chris Bennett on guitar. The music is wonderful. Continue reading It’s My Show (It’s My Show) 2012 Toronto Fringe Review

Annabelle’s Tales From Jail (Modern Attitudes) 2012 Toronto Fringe Review

Annabelle's Tales From Jail at Toronto Fringe 2012There are always lots of one-person shows to choose from at Fringe. Annabelle’s Tales from Jail is a one person show written and performed by Morgonn Ewen who wrote the songs as well.

Annabelle is a white southern trailer trash chick who is serving eight years for the attempted murder of The Biter, a man who has dumped her three times making him the third of her 13 exes. She’s still obsessed with him and dreams of taking care of him for the rest of his life when she gets out of jail.

Annabelle is a woman who doesn’t learn. She doesn’t ever hear no without turning it into yes – at least when there’s a man involved.

Medicine (Big Sandwich Productions) 2012 Toronto Fringe Review

TJ Dawe in Medicine at the Toronto Fringe 2012

TJ Dawe is a favourite with Fringe audiences. Dawe is an autobiographical storyteller and Medicine is the latest installment in the stories of his life. This is the first time that I’ve seen Dawe so I didn’t know if the show was a typical format for him. The woman sitting next to me said that it was but that Medicine was much more personal than his other shows.
