All of the shows in Fringekids at the Fringe are held in the Palmerston Library. It’s a great venue; there’s a washroom in the theatre so if a kid has to go you don’t have to leave the performance the way you do at other venues. Someone with a kid thought of that.
It’s been three and a quarter hours since I left the Fringe show It’s my Show and my cheeks and jaw muscles are still hurting from laughing so much and grinning widely when I wasn’t laughing. It’s My Show is comedy writ large.
George Westerholm is a very funny man. His show is the funniest that I’ve seen at Fringe this year an I’ve seen some funny shows. He and Patrick McKenna wrote the show, McKenna directs it. Annabelle is a white southern trailer trash chick who is serving eight years for the attempted murder of The Biter, a man who has dumped her three times making him the third of her 13 exes. She’s still obsessed with him and dreams of taking care of him for the rest of his life when she gets out of jail.
Annabelle is a woman who doesn’t learn. She doesn’t ever hear no without turning it into yes – at least when there’s a man involved.
TJ Dawe is a favourite with Fringe audiences. Dawe is an autobiographical storyteller and Medicine is the latest installment in the stories of his life. This is the first time that I’ve seen Dawe so I didn’t know if the show was a typical format for him. The woman sitting next to me said that it was but that Medicine was much more personal than his other shows.
