I saw My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m in Therapy at the Bathurst Street Theatre, a venue that I love, in Toronto on Wednesday night. It was a rainy, windy evening but I was prepared to brave it as I was really excited to see this show. It has toured nationally and internationally in over a 100 cities to rave reviews.
Unfortunately, I was gravely disappointed. However, in all fairness, my age group is definitely not the target audience for this show. Most of the attendees were at least 50 years old and they all laughed hysterically throughout the show.
For this week’s cheap theatre picks we decided to go with a complete mixed bag of musical shows. Their themes are very different from each other, so even if romantic musicals aren’t for you, you’re sure to find something in here that’s a fun night out. There’s an opera, a drama, an enchanted cabaret, a Victorian-Gothic puppet show to get you in the mood for Halloween and even an improvised musical comedy. We had to cheat and put in a sixth bonus listing at the end, which is definitely over $20, but seems like a great deal! So take a break from the mundane and go and watch a show, maybe even three. This week’s cheap theatre theme is MoT certified – based on theatre shows that we have already reviewed, and thoroughly enjoyed. There’s some amazing shows in the mix for just about $20, including a remount of a Patron’s Pick Fringe show that we absolutely loved. There’s no risk involved here; read a review, pick a show and go watch some great Toronto theatre! Continue reading Cheap Theatre in Toronto for the Week of October 3, 2011→
