The note published below is a response to the firing of Ken Gass as the Artistic Director of Factory Theatre and is written by his son, Ed Gass-Donnelly. The press release from the Factory Theatre board can be found here.
To the Factory Theatre Board of Directors:
A STATEMENT FROM YOUR COMMUNITY
I’m writing in protest of your abrupt termination of Ken Gass as Factory Theatre’s Artistic Director last week. I enclose a petition with more than 2600 names calling for Ken’s re-instatement and the Board’s resignation.
First, I must confess that Ken is my father, so it may seem easy to write this off as a familial bias. However, I dare you each to read through the full petition, not just the most recognizable names but also the many passionate comments. You cannot ignore the 2600+ voices. There’s no way the Factory will have any future credibility with this board in place. Continue reading Announcement: Factory Theatre’s community responds to Ken Gass Firing

“It is never easy to part with someone who has contributed so much in the past to Factory Theatre and theatre in general as has Ken Gass.” Struys said. “The Board believed that change was necessary to insure the future of this wonderful institution. Factory Theatre is in great shape and we are moving ahead with our new season and plans to renovate our building.”
An offer of a newly created, paid, position as Artistic Director Emeritus and a severance package was offered to Mr. Gass , but was not accepted. The Board is focused now on finding a new Artistic Director from the pool of great Canadian talent within the theatre community. 2012-13 season will go ahead, offering Factory Theatre’s loyal audience challenging, exciting works of theatre. Honour Killings
A Modern Tragedy.
A modern tragedy about family violence and a displaced sense of home, HONOUR KILLINGS is a play with immediate socio-political and culturally relevant content. Four women are drowned after bringing “dishonour” to their family in this tale of people caught between cultures and a household taught that “family is priority”.
“This play is about a family that went horribly wrong and the Canadian systems and society that failed them,” says director Stevie Jay. “This is also about a family caught between worlds and countries. HONOUR KILLINGS is a tragedy and a lot of people do not know that these tragedies exist, let alone the details of how they might happen. Our job is to share the story.” Continue reading Honour Killings – Toronto Fringe 2012 Press Release
