GREMLIN HOUR

In the Toronto Fringe Kidsfest

Directed by Molison Farmer

July 3-14 2019

The George Ignatieff Theatre: 15 Devonshire Pl

“We are spooky spooky Gremlins and we really need your help!”

Award Winning Kerploding Theatre is back and wilder than ever with a brand new play GREMLIN HOUR. Gremlin Hour tackles childhood depression, anxiety, and mental health by talking openly to kids about those not-so-fun feelings while serving up a hilariously fun show with silly sketch comedy, improv, original music, cartoon illustrations, and more!

12 year old Hazel is convinced she is broken. She can’t get along with the other kids at school, can’t seem to enjoy “normal” kid activities, and feels numb inside. Her mother and teachers are confounded by her strange behaviour… and apparently so are the gremlins who live under her bed. The story follows Grom and Grox – two Gremlins who are determined to get Hazel back on track so they can spook her and escape the wrath of the Gremlin Council.

Every Silver Lining – Toronto Fringe 2019 Press Release

Association Silver Lining Productions in association with The Toronto Fringe Festival presents:

Every Silver Lining

Andrew Alexander Stevens Has Cancer but this isn’t about him.

Every Silver Lining is an original, dramedic, coming-of-age musical about death and the perseverance of life; juxtaposing the joyful naiveté of youth, and the crushing discovery of mortality.

Allison Wither and Laura Piccinin developed this show inspired by the experience of losing their close friends to cancer, and in a car accident respectively, in their youth. They sat together at a wrap party at Frankie’s Diner in Toronto, and decided to create a touching, comical show that highlights the various ways in which young people experience life, loss and grief. After nearly two years of collaborative writing efforts, Laura and Allison have finally put their show onto its feet; spending evenings in rehearsals at a local squash court downtown, like the professionals do.

Every Silver Lining was composed by Allison Wither (Fables from Far Away Lands, Awarded Patron’s Pick), with a book by Laura Piccinin (Coming Clean & If, Alumnae Theatre’s Gay Play Day), directed by *Jennifer Stewart, (Assistant Director of Othello, Stratford Festival, 2019), with musical direction by Aaron Eyre (recipient of the NUMUS Award for Composition for New Art Quartet’s The Poison Tree).

The cast includes: Taha Arshad (Urinetown, We Are Here Productions), *Joel Cumber (Rumspringa Break!, Next Stage Festival), Daniel Karp (Next To Normal, Blue Canoe Theatrical Productions), *Dale Miller (Fallstaff, Canadian Opera Company), *Alison J Palmer (Mama Mia!, Neptune Theatre), Laura Piccinin (Footloose, Just For Laughs Festival), Jada Rifkin (Quarter Life Crisis the Musical, Toronto Fringe festival), Ben Skipper (The House of Martin Guerre, Sheridan College), *Sara Stahmer (I Love you, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Follows Latimer Productions) and Allison Wither (Mary Poppins, Lower Ossington Theatre).

Escape From Shady Acres – Toronto Fringe 2019 Press Release

From Press Release

Escape from Shady Acres” Dares to Laugh in the Face of Aging

Morgan Productions is proud to present “Escape from Shady Acres” for the Toronto Fringe Festival. It is a comedic play that involves three elderly women trying to escape an evil retirement home. It will be performed at the Tarragon Theatre from July 3rd to July 14th.

“Escape from Shady Acres” had a very simple beginning, a phone from a Grandson to his Grandmother. The Writer, Tyler Morgan, was sad to hear that his Nana was not enjoying life. “Sometimes it feels like I’m just waiting to die,” she told him. Tyler wrote this play to raise her spirits. It has!

The play revolves around Shirley (Martha Breen) and her arrival at the notorious Shady Acres. She has previously escaped two retirement homes and wants to escape as soon as possible. Shirley soon realizes that the only way to escape is to work with her two roommates, the over acting diva Bernice (Colleen Simm) and her loveable but intolerable sidekick Dolores (Corinne Sutton-Smith) to overcome the scheming manager, Alastair (Tyler Morgan).

“Escape from Shady Acres” is the show that makes it okay to laugh at aging.  We are all going to go through it so we might as well start laughing now. If this show can make Tyler’s Nana laugh, it is sure to delight audiences of all ages.

Emotional Labour – Toronto Fringe 2019 Press Release

Comedian Jess Beaulieu and actor Luis Fernandes tell a socially relevant

tale shedding light on the EMOTIONAL LABOUR women bear in

today’s patriarchal society

Women far too often have to carry the emotional load in their relationships with men. And it’s a load of exhausting, rage-inducing bullshit. So we wrote a play to talk about it. A play that focuses on the lives of Dan and Mel; a couple who are struggling to keep their crumbling relationship alive. The main problem? Dan is taking more than he is giving and Mel is very close to ending it. The show is funny, educational, and provides solutions for some ongoing issues related to toxic masculinity.

Jess Beaulieu, co-host of Crimson Wave Comedy, who is known for her timely feminist humour joins forces with Luis Fernandes of indie production house The Assembly to create this hilarious and political new work. Directed by Gwynne Phillips of The Templeton Philharmonic and produced by Natalie Norman, producer of Crimson Wave Comedy. With sound design by Tim Lindsay and lighting by Andra Legault.

If you are a modern woman who lives, works and plays in Toronto, you will connect with the struggles of the female characters in this observational comedy; if you are a man, you might just learn something about how to be a better ally, partner, coworker, and friend.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION:
Drink of Choice is a dark comedy about an asexual navigating a sexual world. The Bartender (Holly Wyder), tries to understand her relationships by digging through her sexual history (or lack thereof).

Unable to use her phone, she is left to the distraction of her thoughts: Are we supposed to only date one person at a time? Do we have to be sexually attracted to someone in order to have a ‘real’ relationship?

If we have mental health issues, are we still worthy of love?

HollyWould Productions is committed to making art that advocates for sexual autonomy and pushes taboo conversations. Founded in 2010, HollyWould Productions premiered their first Toronto Fringe
show in 2016, ‘Getting Odd’, and has since been producing sketch comedy and web content (Female Therapy, Forever Alone, Penny for Your Thoughts).
