Coming to Toronto Fringe 2009 – The Fever (Supporting Doctors Without Borders)

From Press Release

Risa Morris performs Wallace Shawn’s The Fever

When one witnesses an atrocity it is one’s obligation to act. Actor Risa Morris will donate the proceeds from The Fever to Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

In The Fever, Wallace’s character travels to the developing world to find herself. Instead, she finds herself more lost, questioning her very understanding of the world. In a fever-induced hallucination, she takes the audience with her as she struggles with what it means to live in a privileged place, knowing the realities of life in the developing world.

“The role of theatre is to make its audience question, think, and feel,” says Morris. “If a play can move a person to action it has done its job. In the spirit of The Fever, donating the proceeds seems the only ethical choice.”

Morris has already raised thousands of dollars through performing this piece in theatres, living rooms and classrooms across the country. She and director Margot Massie look forward to continuing their support of MSF by drawing in large audiences through the Fringe Festival.

“Risa Morris’s performance in The Fever is complex, riveting and compelling. She grabs the audience with her gaze and conviction and doesn’t let them go, except to squirm.”-Lynn Slotkin, Theatre Critic for HERE AND NOW, CBC Radio One, 99.1, and the publisher of The Slotkin Letter.
