Driftwood Theatre’s King Lear at Trinity Bellwoods Park is going ahead despite the strike.

From Press Release

DRIFTWOOD THEATRE MOVES FORWARD WITH TORONTO DATES AT TRINITY BELLWOODS PARK STARTING TOMORROW – TUESDAY JULY 28!

Although the Toronto city workers strike forced the cancellation of Driftwood Theatre’s official opening scheduled for July 11 & 12, the company is moving forward with three performances of King Lear scheduled for Trinity Bellwoods Park from July 28-30 at 7:30pm as city services are not required in the location.

Plans are also underway to continue with performances currently scheduled for Withrow Park, August 20 & 21.

In addition, Driftwood’s First Annual Shakespearience Festival has been postponed until the company’s closing weekend on August 22 and 23 featuring symposiums, events and receptions in celebration of William Shakespeare and his plays.

As part of Driftwood’s 15th season of The Bard’s Bus Tour, Driftwood Theatre presents King Lear alongside The Comedy of Errors, both directed by  Driftwood Artistic Director Jeremy Smith.

The descent into madness in King Lear is as famous as the insane tale of mistaken identity in The Comedy of Errors. For Driftwood’s most ambitious season to date, the counterplay between tragedy and comedy in these two plays is ideally matched by common themes of familial responsibility; both are very personal journeys of parents and their children.

A talented acting company brings these plays to vibrant life, including Steven Burley, Richard Alan Campbell, Shannon Currie, Steven Gallagher, Christopher Kelk, Helen King, Benjamin Mehl, Peter Nicol, Sabryn Rock and Peter van Gestel.
