From press release
Common Ground is a suspenseful, character-driven play that follows ordinary people who are forced into extraordinary circumstances. This drama/mystery is about community, honouring and embracing differences, shared values, urban living and social justice.
Racial profiling, homophobia, sexism, the struggles of single mothers and a living wage – many people living in downtown Toronto face these difficult issues every day. The play aims to show the diversity of real Torontonians and how their differences can contribute to shared meanings and understandings, ultimately finding COMMON GROUND.
This new play is written, produced and directed by Susan Magerman and Michelle Brightman. As a strong social justice advocate and high school teacher in Toronto, Susan Magerman was inspired to include in her writing many of the issues she is passionate about and her students have faced. Michelle Brightman has past experience as a new immigrant assimilating to Toronto, which provided inspiration for her writing. This play showcases the amazing talents of our cast and crew: Mishka Balilty, Cameron Grant, Susan Finlayson, Margarita Valderrama and Julie-Rae King.
