Comic, poet and reformed psychiatric nurse, Rob Gee presents a user-friendly guide to losing the plot with “FRUITCAKE – Ten Commandments from the Psych Ward“.

Fruitcake charts a night shift on an acute psychiatric ward, seen through the eyes of a nurse who hears the voice of God. In this case, God is a kindly Jamaican woman – acclaimed dub poet Jean Binta Breeze.

Its creator, Rob Gee spent eleven years working as a registered nurse in psychiatric units around the U.K and Australia. Specialising in acute psychiatry, he has also worked with drug users, people with eating disorders, adolescents and the elderly.

When Carl Jung has the chance to meet his idol, Sigmund Freud, the unforeseen result is a disastrous dinner party, a scandalous affair and a battle of the minds on the high seas.  Sometimes truth is stranger than therapy…

Based on actual events, A Freudian Slip of the Jung is a new comedy by Sean Fisher, the co-creator of Show Stopping Number (“Best of the Fringe 2007”; Canadian Comedy Award winner).  Directed by Gemini Award winner Bruce Hunter, A Freudian Slip of the Jung stars Moira Dunphy, Sean Fisher, David Frisch and Denise Mader.

The Silent City: Toronto 2010 Fringe Preview

Stagehands set to rock Fringe 2010 with a ‘Bring Your Own Venue’ production of  THE SILENT CITY

THE SILENT CITY is a Broadway-Rock Musical written and performed by Toronto band Stagehands. The musicians double as actors and the production is also rock concert.  The venue is Kensington Market’s rock/theatre bar Bread and Circus, home to last year’s BYOV hit ‘My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding‘.

THE SILENT CITY is the story of Stan, a lonely and frustrated musician who travels to Laconia, the Land of Entertainment, in search of an audience, and maybe even fame.  Instead, he finds a city whose celebrity citizens are forced to wear identical masks by the all-powerful Mayor.  What follows is a dramatic struggle between Stan and the Mayor for the fate of Laconia and its people.
