Gravestone Posse: The Golden Age of Radio, Live at the Toronto Fringe!
Long before there was television or cheap travel, there was radio. Families gathered in their living rooms to listen to such classicserial dramas as The Shadow, The Witch’s Tale and The Whistler.
The Canadian Space Opera Company, with the help of U of T campus radio station CIUT, now brings these bygone daysof radio back to life with Gravestone Posse, an episode of the long lost radio horror serial Out Of The Closet. The outdoor setting is perfect for this Oscar Wilde classic. The Casa Loma grounds are breathtaking, creating an intimate setting which is quite romantic. The first act takes place on the patio above the gardens and after a brief intermission the second act is moved down to the garden itself, with chairs lined up to face a lawn with a gazebo that acts as the stage. Toronto – Clownfire and Column 13 Actors Company, two feisty independent theatre companies, are to collaborate to perform the Canadian premiere of SONNETS FOR AN OLD CENTURY by José Rivera at the 2011 Toronto International Fringe Festival. The production will run for just 7 performances at the festival, which runs from July 6-17th, 2011.
This work by Obie-winning, Academy Award-nominated playwright and screenwriter José Rivera asks the question, “Where do we go when we die?”, and if you were offered the chance to comment on your life, at 80, What would you say about the life you’ve lived?”. In a waiting room for the afterlife, a crowd of ordinary souls are en route to their final resting place and are given one last chance to share with the universe their parting thoughts.
