Morro and Jasp GONE WILD: Toronto 2010 Fringe Preview

From Press Release

Up your Nose and In your Toes Productions presents:
Morro and Jasp GONE WILD

After a 5-star sold-out run in the 2009 Toronto Fringe Festival (also selected as Patron’s Pick and Best-of-the-Fringe at the Berkeley Street Theatre) and a spectacular re-mount production of Morro and Jasp do Puberty in Toronto and Montreal this past spring, UNIT Productions is thrilled to announce its latest and greatest Morro and Jasp adventure yet: Morro and Jasp GONE WILD at the Tarragon Extraspace in the 2010 Toronto Fringe Festival.
Performed and created by “the crowned queens of clown” (EYE), Toronto-based Pochinko artists Amy Lee and Heather Marie Annis reunite with director Byron Laviolette to present the sixth new work from the UNIT trio.

Boldly moving into new territory, Morro and Jasp are off to celebrate Spring Break at Wasaga Beach.  Looking to shake off city life for some fun in the sun, the clown sisters expose themselves to a new kind of craziness, learning that even the best laid plans can spiral way out of control.

Morro and Jasp GONE WILD will also run at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival at an outdoor setting and will be completely re-imagined along the bank of the majestic and mighty Red River. Pushing UNIT’s creativity to the breaking point and propelling Morro and Jasp into teenage life, the experience promises to be untamed, unexpected and underage!

About the show:
Morro and Jasp GONE WILD begins with the clown sisters leaving for their grandest  Adventure yet: a road trip to spring break vacation. Unhappily trapped in the same car together the two sisters bicker about what music they will listen to and what they will talk about, since they just cannot see eye to eye. Exploring sibling rivalry and just what it means to grow up and mature, the clowns manoeuvre social expectations, peer pressure and sexuality head first. UNTIL… something goes terribly wrong and everything comes to a screeching halt as the sisters reach their limits and find themselves greatly exposed.

The next step in the lives of Morro and Jasp, GONE WILD is an evolution of UNIT Productions’ previous adult clown show Morro and Jasp do Puberty, and UNIT’s seventh show with the duo. Morro and Jasp are excited for Toronto audiences to keep growing along with them.

About Up Your Nose and In Your Toes (U.N.I.T) Productions:
Up Your Nose and In Your Toes Productions is a non-profit company dedicated to breaking social norms and identifying the flaws that we, as a society, work hard to cover up.  Through covert and multi-disciplinary ways we seek to help people rediscover joy, truth and creativity, not as a passing moment but as an important part of everyday life. We hope to heal the world one smile at a time.

The star characters, Morro and Jasp, have appeared in fringe festivals across the country including Halifax, Winnipeg, London and Toronto garnering five star reviews and sold out houses. In 2009 Morro and Jasp won patrons pick at Toronto Fringe as well as 5-star reviews, and a spot at the Best-of-the-Fringe-Festival.  Recently, the company partnered with Mixed Company Theatre to co-produce two of their TYA works, The Bully Show, and Morro and Jasp Go Green, both of which toured schools throughout southern Ontario. UNIT’s past TYA productions have toured to several theatre’s including The Centaur Theatre (Montreal), Vaughan City Playhouse, and the Harbourfront Centre. In March 2010, UNIT produced a re-mount of their adult show Morro and Jasp do Puberty at Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace, as well as Theatre Ste. Catherine in Montreal. Morro and Jasp Gone Wild will premiere at this year’s Toronto Festival of Clowns and then go through further development before moving on to the Toronto and Winnipeg Fringe Festivals.
