It’s here! It’s here! It’s here, here, here, here here! At Mooney on Theatre, we like to spread the love during Fringe and invite our readers to participate in contests for a pair of FREE Fringe tickets to different shows every day of the festival. So enter a contest and Fringe for Free! Here are the FIVE shows that are we are giving away tickets for on Monday, July 8th, 2013.

Fort Isabel

A dark and dramatic exploration of growing up queer in rural Ontario, Fort Isabel combines childhood imagination with critical issues and forces us to re-examine how our memories shape who we are.
Two children find a dead body in rural Ontario. Their town flies into a queer panic, but the children stay silent. Eight years later, one of the friends disappears without warning. Fort Isabel is a play that explores the childhood experiences that shape us as adults, and how sometimes the deepest secrets are the ones we keep from ourselves.

Assassinating Thomson

Critically acclaimed Visually Impaired visual artist Bruce Horak lives with 9% of his vision and has, over the last two years, painted a series over 400 unique portraits which attempt to capture the way that he sees, aptly named The Way I See It.
As he tells the story of The Way I See It, the tale of Canadian painter Tom Thomson’s unsolved murder is interwoven throughout, including the truth and lies behind the mysterious death of one of Canada’s greatest artists and the subsequent rise of The Group of Seven. The mystery takes you from the tiny community of Canoe Lake, to the hallowed halls of our nation’s capital, and eventually on to the World stage.

Tomes
From press release:
Every night, seven energetic improvisers will perform a live stage adaptation of a paperback fantasy novel… without ever reading it. Tomes runs from July 5 to 14 at St. Vladimir’s Theatre.
This smart and nerdy show is based on the colourful (yet sometimes baffling) covers of fantasy and science-fiction paperbacks. Each show begins with an audience member choosing from a selection of books never read by any of the performers; then, based solely on the cover art and promotional copy, the cast performs the book beginning to end. The result is a hilarious, genre-savvy, and occasionally even accidentally accurate stage adaptation. And the audience member gets to keep the book!

Death Married My Daughter

It’s only been a few months since Theatre Smith-Gilmour’s critically acclaimed adaptation of Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying left the stage of Toronto’s Theatre Passe Murraille. But principal cast member Nina Gilmour and emerging performer Danya Buonastella have collaborated with directors Michele Smith and Dean Gilmour on a new satire at this summer’s Toronto Fringe festival. What would happen if Shakespeare’s Ophelia and Desdemona entered the theatre together before our very eyes?
What would happen if Ophelia and Desdemona came back from the swamps of death where they have endured the longest exile? Resurrected by their desire to expose the “abusers” and “murderers”, they would revel in denouncing “Man”; they would destroy, with delight, the established values of a Man’s society. This is the story of Death Married My Daughter a biting, Bouffon-inspired satire that puts “Man” on trial.

Contest rules:
(these will remain the same for each Fringe contest, so take the time to read the list once and you’ll be set)
- The only acceptable form of entry for the contest is by email, sent to contests@mooneyontheatre.com (Mooney on Theatre will never use your email address for anything other than to reply to the specific contest you entered, and we certainly would never sell it or anything like that)
- Each show counts as its own contest, and each entry must be in a separate email. So, if 5 shows are giving tickets away on a given day, and you want to try for each of them, then you need to send 5 emails.
- Entrants must be available on the day and time listed in the contest. The tickets are available for that showing only, and cannot be transferred to another date.
- The winning entrants will be chosen by a random drawing.
- Winners will be notified by email by 9pm on the day of contest closing and need to confirm their attendance 10am AT THE LATEST the following morning so that their names can be given to the theatre company for tickets to be set aside.
- Photo I.D. may be required to claim the winning tickets.
- Tickets must be picked up 60 to 30 minutes before show time at the venue box office. The box office reserves the right to release any tickets not picked up 15 minutes before show time.
- We ask that all winners provide us with a quick blurb on what they thought of the show, either in the comments section of the press release on Mooney on Theatre, or if it has already been reviewed by Mooney on Theatre in the comments section of that.
